Hands-on training in reviewing and evaluating coronary CT angiography data sets is a most valuable asset to improve skills and experience for clinical applications. SCCT is offering training programs, through its "CTA Academy" that will focus on just that.

In 2007, the CTA Academy will include two-day training courses entitled "Hands on Introduction to Coronary CT Angiography. These courses are offered in co-sponsorship with the American College of Cardiology. During these two day courses, participants will have extensive exposure to interpretation of coronary CT angiography data sets, including hands-on evaluation of 50 cases with correlation to invasive coronary angiography (2 participants per workstation). Thus, participants will be able to have these 50 cases count towards the "Minimum Number of Mentored Examinations Interpreted" according to the ACCF/AHA Clinical Competence Statement on Cardiac CT and MR (Budoff et al, JACC 46:2005;383-402), which lists 50 cases of mentored examinations interpreted as a requirement for Level 1 training, 150 cases for Level 2 training, and 300 cases for Level 3 training. Since no patients are actually scanned during the 2-day course, the cases will not count towards the "Minimum Number of Mentored Examinations Performed" in which, according to ACC/AHA criteria, the physical presence of the trainee is required during the acquisition of the CT dataset.
